The Minnesota and Wisconsin transportation departments will make upgrades to the Bong Bridge next summer to prep for the structure being used as the primary route between Duluth and Superior during replacement of the Blatnik Bridge scheduled to begin in 2027. Built in 1961, the Blatnik Bridge carries 33,000 vehicles each day and will take 4 years and over 1 billion to replace. Work on the Bong Bridge will take about 2 months and involve lane closures, detours at off-ramps and pedestrian sidewalk closures.
